As you can imagine, a few have accused us of "Selling out to the Conservatives", but the simple truth is that we have agreed an equal partnership with the Conservatives, which has allowed Mike and Wendy to be appointed to posts right at the heart of the Planning System.
We had informally agreed a year ago with the Lib Dems, Greens and Labour that we would form a coalition if the numbers went our way, and that none of us would campaign on another group's "patch"
We started our campaign in the Summer prior to the election visiting Parish Councils and getting newsletters out across al ten Parishes, with Sue in Bourne so we could maintain our close relationship with Plaxtol and Shipbourne. Then out of the blue just before the election period began, the Greens decided to stand two candidates against Sue in direct contradiction of the informal agreement. As the campaign progressed they failed to unveil any policies, and instead resorted to vicious personal attacks.
When it became apparent at the count that we Independents held an absolutely crucial position, the Green Leader came weaseling round, but was "rebuffed". It had become brutally apparent that any coalition involving the Greens would implode very quickly. The Conservative Leader and I agreed a deal to form an administration. Whilst the numbers are unequal, each party is very aware that if we do not agree, the other can pull the plug and the administration collapses. But we are all very aware in these uncertain times how important a stable administration is, and every single member in both Groups is committed to maintaining that stability.
Our policy right from the day the Local Plan process was launched in 2016 has been to get the Plan changed, to ensure every site complies with Planning Rules, and that the Pain (or gain) from development is spread fairly across the entire Borough. There is a desperate need for housing, but that shortage is not restricted to urban areas, even the smallest hamlet has people desperate for local housing.
The pandering to Corporate Developers and their love of vast sites has to be curtailed, and the housing we need put where we want it. And smaller sites means work for Local Builders, money going back into our local economy, not siphoned off to a bank vault in the Cayman Islands.
The INDEPENDENT ALLIANCE (KENT) is a registered political party formed by Borough and Parish Councillors.
We developed from the Parish Alliance, to give a cohesive voice to those Parishes, to represent their views free from the taint of Party Ideology

During the campaign, Green leaflets contained a lot of aspirations, but no real policies, in truth a lot of political fluff.
The Independents have been around here for some time, and can actually show achievements, not wishes.
This demonstrate that when we say we will, we do.
